Design and Technology - Certificate I in Metals
In Design and Technology we focus on the practical application of mathematics, encouraging creativity, drafting and understanding plans, personal safety, and work ethics.
In the metal workshop students make a variety of projects including name tags, candle holders, spanners, tack hammers, model cannons, sliding bevels, and slider bikes to name a few.
The students learn a large variety of techniques through these projects, from using hand tools, the magna bend, drills, metal benders, grinders, metal lathes, metal mills and a variety of welders. During year 10 the students have the opportunity to build on these skills in our vocational education and training unit working on achieving competencies for the Certificate I in Metals. They are issued with a statement of attainment at the end of the year. Students are also able to participate in the white card training for construction.
