Koori Preschool Program

The program emphasises a holistic approach to early childhood education, where learning is enriched through play, active participation, hands-on exploration, and creative experimentation. By engaging in these activities, children develop foundational skills in literacy and numeracy while fostering a love for learning. The program places a strong emphasis on oral language development, helping children build confidence in communication and storytelling, which are integral to their cognitive and social growth.

Cultural understanding is a cornerstone of the curriculum, with activities designed to celebrate and honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. Children are introduced to traditional practices, stories, and art forms that deepen their connection to Australia's rich cultural heritage. To enhance this experience, children may have opportunities to visit culturally significant sites around Canberra, such as local landmarks, cultural centres, or historical venues, offering them a tangible link to their heritage.

Additionally, the program often invites Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders and storytellers to share their wisdom, stories, and traditions directly with the children, fostering a deeper appreciation for cultural knowledge and creating meaningful connections to their community.
