Electives

Kingsford Smith School elective process is outlined for each year group below:

Year 6 & 7 elective students will do four electives a year rotating through different classes each term. This gives our students a chance to try the many different electives we have to offer in preparation for them to start to choose their own electives in year 8.

Year 8 is the first chance students have to select their elective courses. This is a fantastic opportunity for parents to

engage in a discussion with their child about the subjects that interest them and the passions

they wish to pursue further. In Year 8 students will have the opportunity to complete one elective course each Semester.

Year 9/10 students do two a electives each semester, One from group A and One from Group B. We offer a range of electives for students to choose from which you can read more about in the elective handbooks below. We do encourage students to have discussions with their guardians at this point still as they start to consider their Schooling/Career pathways past Year 10.

The electives handbooks below describes what elective courses are available for Year 8 – 10 in 2024.

Whilst Kingsford Smith School will endeavour to place each child in their first preference, due to demand, class sizes and the need to have a balanced educational program, your child may be offered their second or third preferences in some cases.

Students will make their course selections using an online preference system that is emailed to students school email addresses. This will happen towards the end of Term 2 and 4 each year. We encourage students to talk to their electives teachers, Executive teachers and parents to help make decisions about the courses that they would like to take part in next year.
